Governor Nathan Deal Proclaims April as Community Banking Month

April is Community Banking Month and the Community Bankers Association of Georgia and community banks across Georgia are recognizing the unique spirit that makes community banks the foundation of their communities in cities and towns throughout the state. Annually, community bankers across the country have come together during April to inform the public of the important economic and social contribution their banks make in their hometowns. Governor Nathan Deal recently proclaimed April 2018 as Community Banking Month in Georgia.

“Declaring April Community Banking Month recognizes the significant role community banks play in stimulating their local economies through economic development opportunities,” stated Rob Braswell, President & CEO of CBA. “Our member banks are an integral part of the economic, financial and civic landscape of hundreds of towns and cities in Georgia. Community banks continue to work hard every day to improve the quality of life in their communities because they are part of their community — a uniqueness only community banks can bring to the table. We appreciate Governor Deal recognizing the significant impact community banks are making across Georgia.”

Community banks comprise 99% of all banks; make nearly 50% of small business loans to help create two out of three jobs nationwide; make more than 80% of agricultural loans; have roughly 52,000 locations across the country and employ 760,000 people.

“Farmers and Merchants Bank is honored to serve the needs of our community. We care about our customers and are dedicated to helping our local residents and town thrive,” said Lindsey Rickman, Marketing Director at FMB. “Community Banking Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate community banking here and in communities across the nation, and to spread the positive story of our industry and the communities we serve.”
